Terms of Service

Operator and acceptance
StackMentor is operated by Julius Cherubini, an individual based at Kivipelto 2, 40520 Jyväskylä, Finland. You can contact the operator at support@stackmentor.dev or +358 40 935 2290. These Terms apply to the StackMentor website, web application, and VS Code extension.
By creating an account, joining a school or bootcamp, purchasing a plan, signing a Custom Program Plan Order, or using StackMentor, you agree to these Terms. StackMentor is available only to people aged 13 or older. If you are under the age of majority where you live, use the service only with any permission required by your parent, guardian, or institution.
StackMentor plans are designed for groups. A customer may be a school, bootcamp, organization, or individual group organizer. The customer pays for selected student seats and may invite people they are authorized to invite. A person may purchase seats for their own use or group use; this is not a separate individual plan. Customers must not share sign-in credentials or invite people without permission.
Accounts and access
Provide accurate account details, protect your sign-in information, and tell us if you believe your account was used without permission. Do not share accounts, impersonate another person, or use an invite intended for another email address. You may use only schools, courses, assignments, and features your account is allowed to access.
School owners and teachers may manage school or course access according to their roles. Only students may use Mentor chat.
AI mentor
Mentor responses are generated guidance for learning and development. They may be wrong, incomplete, outdated, or unsuitable. You remain responsible for reviewing, testing, securing, and independently verifying any code or advice before relying on it.
Do not use StackMentor as a substitute for a teacher, professional adviser, security review, or emergency service.
Your content
You or your institution keep the rights you already have in messages, code, assignments, course materials, and other submitted content. You give StackMentor permission to store, process, display, and transmit that content only as needed to provide, secure, support, bill, and legally operate the service.
Customer content is not used for advertising, targeted marketing, profiling, AI model training, or unrelated product research. Do not submit passwords, private keys, certificates, access tokens, or other secrets.
School and bootcamp use
Institutions choose members, roles, courses, assignments, materials, and billing settings. They are responsible for their academic rules, student permissions, and notices. The institution normally controls institution-provided learning data, and StackMentor processes it under the School Data Processing Addendum.
Do not use StackMentor to bypass course rules, submit work dishonestly where prohibited, or access another person's account or content.
Billing, refunds, and cancellation
Plans, seat capacity, price, currency, billing period, and renewal details are shown during checkout or in the billing area for standard plans. Stripe processes standard-plan payments. Customers pay for selected seats upfront for the billing period, and unused selected seats become credits under the billing rules shown in the product. Custom Program Plans are governed by a signed Custom Program Plan Order, which may define a different term, seat entitlement, price, payment method, invoicing schedule, renewal rule, or credit rule.
Refund and cancellation requests are handled through support@stackmentor.dev. Individual consumers retain mandatory withdrawal and digital-service rights. Our ordinary refund rules are described on the Refunds and Cancellation page.
Custom Program Plans
A Custom Program Plan is a time-limited or specially priced group plan agreed in a signed Custom Program Plan Order. The order may identify the customer, start date, end date, included schools, courses, or programmes, seat entitlement, fees, taxes, payment terms, support commitments, usage limits, renewal, cancellation, and termination rules. A discussion template is available on the Custom Program Plan page.
A Custom Program Plan does not renew automatically unless the Custom Program Plan Order expressly says that it renews. When the agreed term ends, new Mentor requests may be blocked until the plan is renewed or extended. Institution data is handled according to the School Data Processing Addendum and the applicable retention and deletion rules; access expiry does not by itself mean immediate data deletion.
If a Custom Program Plan Order conflicts with these Terms, it controls only for the conflicting commercial terms. The School Data Processing Addendum controls matters concerning the processing of institution personal data.
Acceptable use
Do not misuse StackMentor, interfere with its operation, defeat its security, overload its systems, access data that is not yours, distribute malware or unlawful material, or use mentor requests to evade limits or create unnecessary load.
Privacy and providers
The Privacy Policy explains what we process, why we process it, how institution data is handled, which providers receive information, retention, deletion, and privacy rights. The School Data Processing Addendumapplies when an institution uses StackMentor for its learning data.
StackMentor rights
StackMentor software, branding, design, documentation, and service technology are owned by the operator or licensors. Subject to these Terms and applicable open-source licenses, you receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable permission to use the service while your access remains active. Feedback may be used to improve the service without identifying or reusing customer content.
Availability and changes
We may change, suspend, or discontinue parts of StackMentor, including limits and integrations. We may update these Terms when the service or legal requirements change. We will post updated Terms and change the date above. Mandatory consumer rights and signed institution terms remain unaffected.
Suspension and deletion
We may suspend or end access when necessary to protect the service, investigate misuse, comply with law, handle unpaid billing, or enforce these Terms. Deletion may be delayed for billing closeout, school ownership, security, backup, or legal requirements.
Disclaimers and liability
To the extent allowed by law, StackMentor is provided on an "as available" basis. We do not promise that the service or mentor responses will always be available, accurate, secure, or free from errors. Keep backups of important content and verify important results independently.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded, including mandatory consumer rights. Customer-specific commercial terms may contain additional liability, indemnity, or dispute provisions.
Governing terms
These Terms are interpreted under Finnish law, subject to mandatory consumer and student protections in the user's place of residence. A signed Custom Program Plan Order may contain different governing-law, venue, dispute, or commercial terms.
